How It Started
Founder and CEO, Selena Roman, has worked with people with varying abilities for over 6 years in different capacities. After going to college for Recreation Therapy, she worked in summer camps, special education, day programs, after school programs, and provided at-home care for those in this population.
Her passion is seeing individuals with disabilities find their "why", their community, and in turn, become more independent. At the end of the day, everyone just wants to be celebrated for their abilities and be included. Which is why Selena wanted to create a coffee shop that employs and empowers people with disabilities and changes the way the world sees people with disabilities in the workforce.
Why We Do It
Statistics show that unemployment of adults with disabilities is more than twice as high as the general population. The workforce has taken advantage of many loopholes when hiring adults with disabilities. Our company wants our employees to feel the joy of getting their first real paycheck, feel valued and accepted in their community, and feel like an average 20-30 year old, who gains coworkers who turn into best friends. Best Day Coffee Co. wants our customers to leave our business feeling like they learned something new about their barista that happens to have a disability, and in turn, continue to come back to create a meaningful relationship with each other.
Vision
Through working at our mobile coffee bar or coffee shop we will change the perspective people have on what inclusion and diversity looks like in the workplace. Best Day Coffee Co. will be a place where people have a chance to experience what our founder experienced working with this population for over six years: love, joy, kindness, and acceptance.
